Aren X. Tulchinsky

Aren X. Tulchinsky (he/him), formerly known as Karen X. Tulchinsky, is a story teller by nature. Aren was the kid in elementary school who was writing stories when he was supposed to be solving math problems.

 

A graduate of the prestigious Canadian Film Centre, Aren is a novelist, screenwriter, video editor, director and writing mentor. He was a writer on Robson Arms (CTV) and The Guard (Global TV).

 

Six of Aren’s feature length screenplays have been in development, including I Shot the Sherrif, which will be directed by acclaimed director Clement Virgo (The Book of Negroes).

 

Aren’s short comedy, Ms Thing has screened in over 50 film festivals internationally, including screenings in Toronto, New York, San Francisco, Paris, London, Hamburg, Zurich, Barcelona, Milan, Sicily, Durban, Athens and Mumbai. Ms  Thing won Audience Choice Award at QueerFruits Australia.

 

Aren is the author of the award-winning novel, The Five Books of Moses Lapinsky, a sweeping family drama set in 1930’s Toronto. The novel won the One Book One Vancouver Prize, was a Toronto Book Award Finalist and was named One of the Top Ten Books About Toronto by the Toronto Star, a list which included Margaret Atwood and Michael Ondaantje. Aren is also the author of Love Ruins Everything, which was named a Top Ten Book by the San Francisco Bay Area Reporter and its sequel Love and Other Ruins.

 

Aren works as a video editor and is a writing mentor to emerging screenwriters and novelists.
